Bridgerton: The Duke and I by Julia Quinn Book Review

Today I will be sharing with you my review for The Duke and I by Julia Quinn.

Now. Let's be honest. I didn't go into reading this book thinking that it would be the best thing in the world and that it would be absolutely beautifully written and perfect. No. I started watching the series right when it came out and stopped after a couple of episodes because I wanted to be able to read the book first. While I'm glad that I chose to read it, my initial suspicions were correct. Not the most beautifully written book in existence or the most groundbreaking, but it was a very fun and easy read. The internal struggle within Simon with his love for Daphne and hate for his father was excellent. And I did love the family dynamic specifically between the brothers and Daphne, it was a lot of fun. The only thing that I can say I didn't particularly enjoy was the "insta-love" between Daphne and Simon. It felt that automatically when they began fake courting that she was like "I LOVE HIM". Which to be honest I could hold towards the society at the time and I feel as though I shouldn't have expected anything different. She had never known love, quite obviously had never had a boyfriend and was thrusted into this situation of pretending the love and lust. I don't blame her, the character, or her, the author, for doing this, just personally I am not a fan of it. Now obviously this is a romance novel. It's what it has always been known as and in fact is probably one of the most well-known romance novels of all time. But there was a lot less raunchiness than I thought. To be honest I think that Sarah J. Maas' books may have more sex scenes that are explicit in them. Not that I am complaining that it didn't have as many as I had anticipated, I'm not exactly one to love those scenes in books, but it was definitely a shocker just based on all of the talk that I have heard about it. 

All in all, it was a fun book. Easy to read. Enjoyable characters. Pretty nice plot line that wasn't too crazy but had some twists in there. It was a good book, just not mind-blowing in any way. I do want to continue on with the series just because they are so light and easy and enjoyable.
