Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard Review (Spoilers)

Hey guys!
Today I will be reviewing Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard.

Overall this was an okay book. You could see a total change in the main character's persona, and this was a good thing. It is great to see a character development occur, especially since this character was insufferable throughout most of the first novel. Each individual characters in Glass Sword were well done and they were what really kept my head in the book, but the relationships between the characters could have been more realistic and them being unrealistic put a sour taste in my mouth. Throughout this novel, the plot was not fast paced and had few hard-hitting points, but this was just because I found it to be more of a character driven novel. You can really see how Aveyard's writing has evolved from her first novel to her second. Her words were well calculated and the tropes that plagued the first novel were mostly abolished, however, a few still lied. Her actual writing improved as well, this book had more of a flowing feel that made the pages breathe by. In these aspects, the novel was excellent, but there were multiple things that I personally didn't enjoy other than the character relationships in this book. One of the major things is the constant betrayals, and the fact that you can tell when they are coming. I get that this was part of the book, how Julian had said that "anyone can betray anyone" in Red Queen, but I think Aveyard took it a little too far for my taste. There were too many betrayals that I couldn't tell who was with or against Mare. Another thing that I didn't like was how the plot was spaced out. It seemed that Aveyard focused on certain things that I didn't care for and not enough on some things that I really wanted to know more about, such as the training at the camp. One last thing that I did not like was the deaths at the end of the book. I hadn't even realized that they had died until the following chapters where they were talking about the bodies and graves. Something as major as that should definitely have been handled a little slower.

But this book was not terrible. It was good, okay. I don't agree nor disagree with those who say that this is better than Red Queen, although my rating my say differently...

I rate this book 3.75 out of 5 yellow roses, because although there were things that I didn't like throughout it, none of these made my hate it or want to stop reading it. Also there were some parts that I really did enjoy that kept me interested.

Bye!
Thanks, I hope I didn't spoil you,

I will keep posting and responding to your thoughtful emails and hopefully bringing some joy (lifting) to your life even if I have crushed you with a bad review of one of your favorite books. <Yes that is what I named my blog after. I remember creating the very first post and I was afraid that I would be ridiculed and maybe mocked for my opinions and the thought of doing this, but that is not the case! You guys are so sweet and I love you guys!

More content soon! 😃

Thanks,
Delaney M.

PS. Also, you guys are the reason that I am able to get books from publishers and authors because of your support!

TBR For Christmas Break

Hey guys!
Today I will be sharing what I plan to read over Christmas break! I know that I wont be able to read all of the books over vacation but I definitely want to try. So here are the books that I want to read over break.

1. Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard
So I am only about 50 pages into this book, but I will definitely sit down and read it today. I would really like to finish it over break, and I know I will!

2. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
I know that I have said this about a million times on this blog, but I will read this book! I read the first one when it came out and I bought this when it came out. I absolutely loved the first one and people say that this one is even better. They say that it is the best book that they read all year and so many of you guys nominated it for the best book of 2016. The size does intimidate me because I think that if I read it, it will take forever and I wont be able to read anything else. But I need to get passed it and just read it because I know that I will love it!

3. The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Adieh
I really enjoyed the first book and I got this one a while ago. I am thinking that it will be a quick read and I haven't heard a lot about it so I am not sure how it is going to go but I am very excited!

4. A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
I really like the first book and I haven't listened/read anything about this book so I can go in blind but I am very excited for it and I hope that I really love it!

5. The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid
If you guys saw my latest post then you would see that I just got this for Christmas. I am really in the mood for a sci-fi novel and I think that this is the perfect one!

Thanks,
Delaney M.

I have not heard anything in this book. It is about when this plague hits and a girl named Ani is sent to a quarantine colony on an island. That is all I really know about it, but I thought that it looked and sounded interesting. I know that this book is on the border of Middle Grade and I have not read that many Middle Grade books because I started reading YA very young so I kinda skipped Middle Grade with reading. But I want to see how I like this book because it was such a random thing that I wanted but I am excited to read it!

9. Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
Image found here: http://images.gr-assets.com/books/1469265644l/23207027.jpg

And I Darken by Kiersten White Review

Hey guys!
Today I will be sharing my review for Kiersten White's book And I Darken.

First off, the idea for this book was so amazing. I am so fascinated with the Ottoman Empire and it was an amazing idea with Vlad the Impaler being a girl. The characters were really interesting in this book and I could connect with most of them really well, and not with some others. Sometimes the plot was kinda slow and it made it so it was difficult to read a lot at a time. I heard from other people that it was hard to get into and they were right, you guys know that I am in a reading slump and this book definitely did not help. It was hard to get into which made me not want to read. But that doesn't mean that I didn't overall enjoy this book. I really loved White's writing and I could tell that she really understood the time period. I know some things about the Ottoman Empire and it was really cool to see those aspects incorporated into the writing. At times it was confusing, but I could see why it was like that. I could see that everything White put into the story had a purpose which doesn't always happen in YA. Another thing that you don't see a lot in YA was the diversity in it. There was religion LGBTQ and other diverse things. It was nice to see those things even though I am not pushing to have those in YA, I do enjoy reading it and it is nice that people's voices are being heard in the movement "We Need Diverse Books". Overall, I really did enjoy this book. The characters were interesting, relationships were good, sometimes the plot was slow, but there were other parts of the story that were extremely interesting. I loved White's writing style and how she really knew her stuff about the Ottoman Empire.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 yellow roses.

I hope you liked this review! I know it was really scrambled but it has been a while since I read it.

Thanks,
Delaney M.
